Maggie Pickering - An Update from Cindy Moreno
I have been following Maggie Pickering’s work ever since I moved to the Central Coast 20+ years ago. Back then, it was her sculptures I coveted. Over the past few years, I have acquired several of her jewelry pieces and last year at Open Studios, I was finally able to purchase one of her sculptures, “Long Tall Sally,” (shown here), who sits in my art room and makes me smile every day.
Originally from Scotland, Maggie has lived on the Central Coast almost 40 years, making and selling her work most of that time. She honed her first “craft” -- the practical skill of knitting at age 5 or 6, so that she could knit a cotton wash rag… “We were practical in Scotland…no pasting macaroni on paper plates for us!”
I was so looking forward to seeing Maggie’s latest work during Open Studios this year and maybe acquiring another one of her special pieces… so I was thrilled that she has joined us at nipomoartists.com.
Maybe this year it will be one of her colorful paintings or a piece of enamel jewelry!
