A Mixed Media Journey - Jewel DeMoss

I feel privileged to be a part of Nipomo Artists surrounded by such talented, diverse artists. In the best of times we would be gathering together and creating together, but this virtual gallery has provided its own opportunities for collaboration, learning and involvement. For this, I am grateful.

I recently discovered mixed media fabric, paper, string and more to my canvases. There are not sufficient words to describe my excitement in finding mixed media. It is like finger-painting and provides so much opportunity to play. I create on paper or canvas and use fabric, metal, paints and whatever else I can get my hands on.
Painting abstracts is most difficult for me, but it is a big part of my evolution. If I don’t try new techniques and new subjects, then I don’t evolve as a painter. I know this sounds like work and it is. However, the wonderful thing is that, although the process may be work, the thrill of seeing (and liking) that final painting is all worth it.
